Your home WiFi network is the first place to start. Make sure that you use an encryption method such as WPA2-AES, have a strong password for your home router, change the SSID name, and evaluate your guest networking.

- Understand that if you can remotely view what is happening in your home, consider turning the feature off when you are not using it. Leaving that portal open exposes you to security threats
- Updating your camera’s firmware not only enhances performance, it also corrects any known flaws with the system
- Webcams are staples on devices such as desktops and laptops, and they are a cyber threat risk if any malware is present that lets them spy on you. A low-tech way to prevent prying eyes is to simply cover the camera when it’s not in use. Make sure to prevent adhesive residue or use a sticky note as an option
- Beware of any unofficial password-recovery emails and phishing scams
